Too bad. They were a nice alternative to the Mercedes E Class black cabs, in France.

This car is a hidden gem and excellent value for money . Sure the tech is old but it’s super reliable and quick . And it has a lot of space, and comes with heated/cooled seats, B ose 16 speaker surround sound system.

As did several American or Amiericanised companies over the years .

Most in Europe don’t know Infiniti other than it’s available in America, so seen as a Nissan marque for America they tried to bring here.

It takes a long time to get established here as many buy what they know and rarely step out the pool of what they know for fear of being burned and ending up with a lemon.

As a newcomer you need to have a unique selling point. In the past the Korean brands and before that the Japanese brands offered reliable well optioned cars for little money. They offered bang for your buck; their unique selling point. So they gained market share, became respected and esta blished and eventually could afford to increase their prices.

Brands like Infinity, Cadillac and Lexus don’t have true unique selling points here. So they don’t sell anything either.

Nothing of value was lost.

Why do you say Lexus doesn’t have a unique selling point over there? Here, they are the leaders of reliability in the Luxury segment. Do they not have the same reputation in Europe?

Lexus came into the U.K. strong and esta blished themselves as a luxury Toyota and highly reliable and kept their value, but now Lexus is an ‘also ran’ being a slightly more expensive run of the mill Toyota.

Daewoo w eren’t that much to shout about but they were cheap, then and quite honest little cars. When they got rebadged as Chryslers, what name they had, was forgotten.

The pull out method doesn’t work...wait, what are we talking about?

Yes and no. Nobody is aware Lexus exists, as they never established themselves as a ‘mainstream’ luxury brand. Those that are familiar with Lexus know about its reliability.

An additional issue is a similar issue Subaru faces here: Not offering what the market expects, but instead offering cars clearly designed for another market. It’s as if Citroën would offer a Cactus in the US tomorrow, with a small diesel engine and a manual transmission. Regardless of how good that car might be, no one will buy it as customers are not looking for a car like that.

A few strikes in Youroland - few to no competent diesels, invisible or gaudy styling, usually bland driving dynamics, no image, not always bargain priced, a tough row to hoe.  It seems drivers on the continent will put up with quirks for something more interesting to behold, or with a more “special” rep.

They were rebadged as Ch evrolets :)

With the rebadge a price increase was (eventually) introduced as well, and they were offered along side of barely more expensive but better Opel/Vauxhall cars in the same dealerships. So they lost their old unique selling point (price) , but did not gain a new one. RIP Chevrolet. That was just utterly mismanaged by GM.

I didn’t even know they were in Europe. Read about them coming years ago and assumed that never happened or that they pulled out shortly after.

Based on my sightings they seem to be popular in Russia.

I knew it was a ‘Ch’ something or other.

Then again I really should of known as it was only a few months ago we were talking about Chevrolet doing a deal in the U.K. where they were rebadging, but if you bought a Daewoo Matiz in the la st few months, they will swap it for a new Chevrolet Matiz when the badge change happens.

Cadillac and Lexus could stop selling cars here as well and nobody would even notice. Same will happen with Infinti now.

Makes sense. They do well here, but also they target the US hard. And as you and duurtlang mentioned, it seems like they aren’t investing to build vehicles for that market. I did not realize that. I figured they would be just as big over there. TIL

poor bastards who own/lease them will eventually end up standing in a Nissan dealer to get their car serviced, waiting for old dears getting their Micras serviced.

so much for paying to own a “premium” car
